Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 — Article 3
Operators and downstream operators may not place or make available relevant commodities or products on the EU market unless they are deforestation-free, produced in accordance with the producing country's legislation, and covered by a due diligence statement or simplified declaration. This applies to all operators and downstream operators placing relevant commodities or products on the market.
Why this applies to you
- You sell wooden furniture and leather goods, which fall under the wood and cattle commodities covered by the EU Deforestation Regulation.
- Your shop is established in Germany and ships to multiple EU countries, so you place these products on the EU market.
- As a small company, your leather goods are due from 30 June 2027, but your wooden furniture stays due 30 December 2026: the later date leaves out products listed in the EU Timber Regulation's annex, which includes wooden furniture.
What to do
Ask the suppliers of your wooden furniture for documentation proving the wood was produced legally in its country of origin
